When will fixes for Smooks-Camel integration issues be available?

Jochen Cordes
Hi all,

Currently I'm facing multiple issues when trying to integrate Smooks 1.5.1 with Camel 2.10:

- "Update of META-INF/services/org/apache/camel/TypeConverter in the smooks JAR to use FQN for Camel 2.8+" (http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MILYN-655)

It's simple to workaround it, but for convenience purposes it would be good to fix it

- "Smooks 1.5.1 incompatible with Camel 2.10" (https://issues.jboss.org/browse/MR-784)

Both the Smooks-Component and the DataTypeConverter are affected, so I needed to write my own to get it
  working

Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Jochen

Hi Jochen.

You do know there's a 1.5.2 release with fixes for at least one of the issues you outlined?  The work for this release was actually done by Red Hat :)

We're also hoping to pull together a 1.6 release, again with Red Hat help (thanks to Dan Bevenius + Jay Balunas).  Can you verify that the fixes you want are in the master branch?  I would check but don't have time right now.

Regards,

T.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the fast response, I will have a look and also check with my colleagues when the fixes will be incorporated in a new product release (that is JBoss Fuse and Fuse Service Works).

Kind regards,

Jochen

Hello Tom,

I had no idea Smooks grew to 1.5.2. No info on the github relase page. No branch/tag in the source code. Any chance the the release will get published to Maven Central?

Re: When will fixes for Smooks-Camel integration issues be available?

Daniel Bevenius
Hi,

sorry, I failed to tag the release which is why there is no tag and the release was not showing on the github releases page. I've tag it now and will also update the docs so that this does get missed again.

The release has been published to Maven Central as far as I can tell [1].

Hi,

Great job.

@Daniel: My bad, I missed it on central. So, is RedHat supporting Smooks again?

Re: When will fixes for Smooks-Camel integration issues be available?

Jochen Cordes
Hi Loan,

Smooks is supported as it is part of Red Hat's SOA-P 5 and Fuse Service Works (FSW, successor of SOA-P 5) products, see also https://access.redhat.com/site/articles/626493 (here Smooks 1.5.1 is shipped)

You can find Smooks FSW documentation here: https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_JBoss_Fuse_Service_Works/6/html-single/Development_Guide_Volume_2_Smooks/

Kind regards,

Jochen

Any feedback is welcome.

Re: When will fixes for Smooks-Camel integration issues be available?

Jochen Cordes
I have just looked at http://central.maven.org/maven2/org/milyn/milyn-smooks-camel/1.5.2/milyn-smooks-camel-1.5.2.jar and http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MILYN-655 is not fixed yet.

When will the fix be available?

You can find Smooks FSW documentation here: https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_JBoss_Fuse_Service_Works/6/html-single/Development_Guide_Volume_2_Smooks/

Re: When will fixes for Smooks-Camel integration issues be available?

Tom Fennelly
Hi Jochen.  I'm not sure that there's a fix for this anywhere in the codebase? Feel free to fix this and submit a PR.  I was just talking to Daniel (a RH colleague of yours - Bevenius) and we were saying we should get this 1.6 release done.

Anyone up for doing a dry-run of the steps outlined in https://github.com/smooks/smooks/blob/master/RELEASE.md and ??  Maybe Ioan would like to give it a try?
